Welcome to https://spreadthejoomlalove.com — a digital celebration of 21 years of Joomla, one of the world’s most influential open source content management systems. This site, created by Brian Teeman Opens in new tab, co-founder of Joomla, marks two decades of community-driven innovation, collaboration, and open source excellence.
What Is the Purpose of This Website?
This site exists to:
-
Celebrate the 21st anniversary of Joomla’s launch in 2005.
-
Reflect on key moments in Joomla’s evolution — from its roots in the Mambo project to its current global impact.
-
Recognize the people, projects, and milestones that have defined the Joomla community over the years.
-
Share stories that illustrate Joomla’s open source journey.
How Is It Built?
The site is crafted with simplicity, speed, and sustainability in mind:
-
Built using an early alpha release of Joomla 6, to keep it fast and accessible.
-
Designed to be lightweight and responsive, offering a clean, distraction-free user experience.
-
Structured as a visual timeline, showcasing key moments in Joomla’s 20-year history.
-
Reflects the open source ethos that Joomla and its community embody.
More Technical Details
- Coders
- The data for this page was extracted from GitHub using this GitHub api script and then imported into Joomla using this Joomla api script.
- Video Fields
- This is a custom field that uses the lite-youtube-embed script from Paul Irish. Use of this facade script is recommended by Google for speed and performance reasons. The field is available to use on your own website and can be downloaded from my Github repo.
- Template
- The template on this site is the default Joomla Cassiopeia template with an additional child template by Viviana Menzel that will hopefully be included in Joomla 6. Additionally I am using layouts from my own child template.
- Performance
- I have deliberately not enabled any cache on this site so that you can see how fast native Joomla can be with good site hosting. This site is hosted with ScalaHosting Opens in new tab
- PageSpeed Insights

A perfect score on all five metrics on both mobile and desktop.- Additional Software
- AkeebaBackup, Admintools, RSForms
